School Committees

The Schoolsite Council (SSC) is a decision-making group of parents, students, school staff, and administrators. The SSC participates in determining how funds are allocated to the school, and develops, monitors, and evaluates the Single Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA). The SSC evaluates the effectiveness of programs in increasing student achievement by reviewing student achievement data, coordinating with the School English Learner Advisory Committee (SELAC) to review programs for English Learners, and reviewing the use of Supplemental and Title I funds to support target populations. Our SSC is composed of 10 members.  Five members are representatives of the school and five members are parent representatives.  Teacher representatives and parent representatives are elected by their peers (teachers elect teachers, parents elect parents).  Canoas Second Language Advisory Board (SELAC) has voted to have a member from the SELAC board represent SELAC as a member of the SSC.

This year, the SSC will meet once a month on a Tuesday evening from 5:30-6:30 p.m. in the library. Please contact the school for more information.

Each school with 21 or more students classified as English Learners will have an established English Learners Advisory Committee, which may be a subcommittee of the School Site Council (SSC). The School English Learner Advisory Committee (SELAC) is a school-based committee that advises the principal and staff on programs and services for English Learners.

The School English Learners Advisory Committee (SELAC) is a school-based committee that advises the principal and staff on programs and services for English Learners. The SELAC also submits a site plan for English Learners to the Schoolsite Council for consideration in the School Plan for Student Achievement. At least two members of the SELAC represent the school in the District English Learners Advisory Committee (DELAC) and attend monthly DELAC meetings. The SELAC is currently meeting jointly with the School Site Council once per month on a Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. in the library. The meeting is open to the public. Please contact the school for more information.
